Custom Wood Door & Trim Services for Ventura County Homes

Everything we build starts as raw lumber. No pre-hung kits, no catalog selections, no shortcuts. If you can design it, we can build it.

Master Door and Crown specializes in custom woodwork for residential clients throughout Ventura County, California. Our process is simple: you tell us what you want, we come to your home, and we build it from scratch. Every door is engineered to the exact opening, finished to your specification, and installed with care. These are not factory doors dressed up with a custom label — they are purpose-built pieces of woodwork made by the hands that will deliver them to your door.

Custom Entry & Front Doors

Your front door is the first and last thing you see every day. It's also the first impression your home makes on every visitor, every neighbor, every potential buyer. We take that seriously.

We build custom entry doors from raw lumber — no pre-made blanks, no stock panel inserts. That means your door can be any dimension, any style, any wood species. We work in red oak, white oak, walnut, mahogany, Douglas fir, and more. If you have a specific wood in mind, we'll source it.

Our entry doors are built to last decades. We use mortise-and-tenon joinery, weather-resistant glues, and a finishing process designed for the California coastal and inland climate. Every door comes with full weather-stripping and threshold fitting as part of the installation.

What makes a Master Door entry different

  • Built to your exact rough opening — no shimming to fit a standard size
  • Wood species selected with your climate and exposure in mind
  • Panel styles from traditional raised-panel to contemporary flat
  • Glass options: clear, frosted, leaded, sidelites, and transoms
  • Hardware coordination — we can work with your hardware or source it
  • Exterior finish applied in multiple coats for maximum UV and moisture resistance

Custom Interior Doors

Interior doors set the tone for how a home flows. Standard hollow-core doors — the kind that come on every new build — open and close, but they do nothing for the feel of a room. A custom solid wood interior door changes the acoustic quality, the visual weight, and the sense of craftsmanship throughout your home.

We build interior doors in any style to match your existing architecture. Whether you're replacing a single door or outfitting an entire home renovation, every door is built to the exact rough opening. We can match existing trim profiles, echo the style of your entry door, or introduce a complementary design that adds interest to your interiors.

Interior doors can be built from a range of species depending on your finish preference — paint-grade poplar and maple, stain-grade oak and walnut, or character-grade woods for a more rustic look. We discuss all options during your consultation.

Options we build

  • Solid-core panel doors: 2-panel, 3-panel, 5-panel, and custom configurations
  • Flush solid doors with wood veneer for contemporary interiors
  • Door-and-casing packages to match throughout a home or floor
  • Prehung units or slab-only depending on your project scope
  • French door sets with glass panels for light between rooms

Barn & Sliding Doors

Barn doors have become a staple of modern residential design — and for good reason. They save swing clearance, create a strong visual statement, and introduce natural wood texture into spaces that need it. But a good barn door is not a plank with a handle bolted to a rail. It's a precisely engineered piece of furniture that slides smoothly and looks right in the room.

We build custom barn doors and sliding panels to any width, any height, and in any style. Our doors are built with the same joinery and material standards as our entry doors — they just happen to slide. We work with clients to coordinate the door design with existing finishes, hardware finish, and room proportions.

We can also fabricate custom bypass doors, pocket door slabs, and room divider panels for open floor plans. If your project involves a wall opening that needs to close without swinging, we have a solution.

What we build

  • Single and double barn door configurations
  • Plank-style, panel-style, and frame-and-fill designs
  • Z-brace, X-brace, and clean-face modern profiles
  • Hardware coordination (bypass, bi-pass, and soft-close systems)
  • Staining and painting to match or complement your interior
  • Custom widths for oversized openings common in open-plan renovations

Finish Work

Crown Moulding & Trim

A well-trimmed room is a finished room. Crown moulding, door casing, base moulding, chair rail, and wainscoting are the details that separate a house from a home. They frame every doorway, ground every wall, and give each room a sense of architectural intention.

We install custom trim packages using solid wood profiles — not foam or MDF facsimiles. Our craftsman hand-fits every corner, scribes every profile to the wall, and finishes every joint so the result looks like it was always there. For older homes with irregular walls and out-of-plumb openings, this kind of skill is the difference between trim that looks right and trim that looks applied.

We offer custom crown profiles milled to match existing moulding in historic homes, or we design new profiles to complement your architecture. Our trim work is typically scoped as part of a door project, but we take on standalone moulding and trim packages as well.

Trim services we provide

  • Crown moulding — standard and custom profiles up to 6" face height
  • Door and window casing — colonial, craftsman, and contemporary styles
  • Base moulding and base cap packages
  • Chair rail, picture rail, and wainscot cap
  • Built-up compound crown for formal rooms
  • Historic profile matching for renovation and restoration projects
